ABOUT US
The Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence of China (COSEE China) is modeled after the successful COSEE Network established in the United States. Our goals are:
To improve ocean literacy and awareness at the K-12, public, and university levels
To foster relationships between ocean scientists and educators, both internationally and domestically
To bring marine sciences to the forefront of national development strategies and to promote marine protection

COSEE China was initiated by Xiamen University and Ocean University of China with support from Dr. Bob Chen of the University of Massachusetts Boston and COSEE OCEAN. After several informal discussions, two planning workshops were held in 2010 and by the end of that year, COSEE China was launched, consisting of 7 founding universities. COSEE China projects are funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science with additional program specific funding from various other sources.
Xiamen University
Peking University
China University of Geosciences
Nanjing University
Ocean University of China
Tongji University
Zhejiang University
Over the last decade we have worked with various primary and middle schools throughout Xiamen to provide in-class ocean science lessons, developed various camp and weekend programs to engage children and stoke their interest in marine sciences, and hosted a variety of public events for the Xiamen community.

We also offer science communication training workshops for university marine science majors. These workshops/training sessions focus on key skills such as scientific poster design and presentations for their peers as well as design and public speaking for a broader, more general audience.
